The function required of the valve seat is to maintain airtightness with the valve, and wear resistance is generally required. However, in an engine used at high rpm and high load, the cooling performance of the valve seat becomes very important, and it greatly affects the engine output. When the engine is running at high speed and under heavy load, the temperature around the cylinder head, especially around the combustion chamber, rises abnormally. Therefore, if the cooling performance is low, the knocking limit will not be high and the engine output cannot be expected to increase. In racing engines, the key is how much the heat-sensitive valve seat ring can be cooled, and a method using a copper-based material with high heat dissipation for the seat ring has been adopted.
